BACKGROUND: Through a non-competitive bid, The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO) was awarded the contract for the construction and operation of a detention facility located in Clayton, New Mexico. The facility houses medium security offenders through an intergovernmental agreement between the Town of Clayton and the New Mexico Corrections Department. Financed by the Town of Clayton, GEO designed and constructed the state-of-the-art detention facility, which was completed in August 2008.
SCOPE OF WORK: GEO is responsible for providing facility administration, fiscal management, personnel and training, programs and recreation, sanitation and hygiene, volunteer and religious programs, security, safety and control, classification, education, inmate work programs, counseling and mental health services, food services, commissary, discipline and grievances, libraries, and a 10,600 sq. ft. state industries program. Psychiatric, medical and dental services are provided by Correctional Medical Services (CMS). Offender housing consists of a double-celled medium security unit, a county detention area for males, a county detention area for females, and a double-celled administrative segregation unit. The entire facility is designed to comply with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards.
FACILITY DESCRIPTION: The 225,000 sq. ft. facility is located inside a double-fenced security perimeter that utilizes microwave intrusion detection and 24-hour vehicle patrol. The facility complex consists of two medium-security housing buildings, an administration building containing the armory, training area, and Central Control, and a support building housing a visitation area, education and library complex, kitchen, laundry, industries, intake, release, medical, a gymnasium, maintenance and prison industries areas, as well as family visitation units.
ACCREDITATION: The facility received initial ACA accreditation May 2010 with a score of 100% and was re-accredited in 2013.
