GEO Care, Inc. acquired Just Care, Inc in October 2009. Through this acquisition, GEO Care now provides the operation and management of the Columbia Regional Care Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Just Care, Inc. was established in 1998 as the nation's first private detention health care company to provide quality, cost-effective medical and mental health services in a secure environment.
Columbia Regional Care Center
The Columbia Regional Care Center (CRCC), in Columbia, South Carolina, is the only private detention health care facility in the United States. Accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC), CRCC is a 374-bed facility offering sub-acute, skilled, intermediate and hospice care for conditions such as AIDS, cancer, cardiac disease, and kidney dialysis, mental health, and special needs programs for detainees.
Quality Care
The Center's treatment units provide safe, humane and secure living space for patients with advanced stage illnesses like AIDS and cancer, patients requiring 24-hour a day skilled nursing care, and patients requiring pre and post-operative care.
Cost Savings
The Columbia Regional Care Center was designed exclusively to provide detention health care at substantially lower costs. Referring institutions have realized savings of 20% to 50% on costs typically incurred for chronic and sub-acute detainee medical care. For an average population of 10,000 detainees, approximately 200 are medically or mentally dependent. When compared to the typical costs of providing health care to these detainees in a prison infirmary, the CRCC can provide savings of $5.1 million annually. Savings are even more substantial when compared to the cost of providing detainee medical care in a community hospital setting.
Total Security
At CRCC, security is a high priority. Detainees are entering a fully secured facility designed and operated in accordance with correction standards and licensing requirements. Our security control center monitors ingress and egress of the entire facility, as well as life safety, fire alarms, and intrusion detection. The entire facility is staffed with experienced, certified correctional officers on all floors. Our officers supervise all detainee activity and electronically monitor all systems 24 hours a day.
CRCC also offers a fully secured detainee transportation service utilizing experienced officers in special security transport vehicles. These vehicles can accommodate mobile detainees as well as those who are wheel chair and stretcher dependent.
Reducing Recidivism
CRCC offers voluntary Christian education programs including pastoral counseling services and Bible study, through a partnership with nationally recognized Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, which has full time missionaries assigned to the Center. These missionaries coordinate more than 70 local church volunteers who assist with this ministry.
The Center serves county, state and federal law enforcement agencies and mental health organizations not only in South Carolina, but throughout the U.S.
