As the founding operating unit, the U.S. Corrections division accounts for approximately 75% of GEO’s revenues and over 25% of the industry’s bed market share. The division encompasses the operation and management of over 53,000 correctional and detention beds for our federal, state, and local government partners geographically located in 15 states.
Each contract managed is tailored to the individual needs of the client and the overall mission for the services rendered. This process allows us to develop a facility with comprehensive quality service and innovative operational solutions with efficient cost-effective operations.

GEO offers turnkey services to its U.S. correctional and detention clients that include design, construction, financing, and management of large scale facilities.

Finance
GEO uses both on and off balance sheet financing techniques to support the development of correctional and detention facilities for its clients. GEO either facilitates the issuance of non-recourse public bond financing or uses its own company capital to support the capital project needs of its clients. Alternatively, GEO can also partner with third party entities, primarily at the municipal level, in the issuance of third party financing or the leasing of third party owned facilities to support the bed space needs of its clients nationally.
Management and Operations
GEO’s correctional solutions include operation and management services for Adult Secure Correctional Facilities, Adult Secure Detention Centers, and Low Security Community Correctional Facilities. GEO’s U.S. Corrections business unit provides safe and secure housing of offenders and detainees at all security levels including minimum, medium, and maximum security. GEO’s custody services include the provision of food services, healthcare, rehabilitation and treatment, facility maintenance in addition to ensuring the safety and security of each facility, its staff and offenders, and the surrounding community.
Leased Facilities (owned but leased to other providers)
In addition to the operation of more than 53,000 correctional and detention beds in the United States, GEO also owns two facilities that are leased to and managed by other private correctional providers. Delaney Hall, located near Newark, New Jersey, is a 790-bed detention facility owned by GEO and leased to Community Educational Centers (CEC). The Mesa Verde Community Correctional Facility, located in Bakersfield, California, is a 360-bed correctional facility owned by GEO and leased to Cornell Companies.
