Clayton County students Joshua Robinson of Lovejoy High and Donovan Fraser from Mundy’s Mill High were recently awarded scholarship provided by The GEO Group.
The GEO Group is the for-profit prison in Lovejoy that provides correctional, detention and community reentry services to Clayton County. The prison provides the county $10,000 total — $2,000 for each commissioner — to give in varying amounts as scholarships for graduating high school seniors, according to Steven VanDyke.
VanDyke is the constituent aide to Clayton County Commissioner Shana Rooks, who presented the scholarship checks worth $3,050 each. He said the amount was due partly to leftover funds from previous scholarship donations.
Robinson and Fraser maintained grade point averages over 3.0 at their schools and have plans to continue their education in Atlanta. Robinson plans to attend Georgia State University this fall, while Fraser has decided on Morehouse College.
