We all enjoy movies with a great hero character, one who for a few hours perseveres through seemingly impossible challenges, beats his or her adversaries, and closes with a positive message to which we each relate. At GEO Care, we find similar excitement and satisfaction in helping real people find their inner hero and achieve real success by completing our program and using what they’ve learned when they go home.
Just as each program participant is in control of the “script” and the choices made every day, our case managers and post-release staff are the movie “directors” who guide them through the program. Lastly, GEO Care is the “producer” with the vision and belief that we are investing in these individuals and directly contributing to their success.
Our tagline is “Changing Behavior | Changing Lives” because that’s what we do every day. Individuals typically enter our care while incarcerated, where they develop new skills in preparation for their release. Our post-release staff then provide support and connections with other providers after release, to give each person the best possible reentry. GEO Care is with them every step of the way.
“I am finally living life the way it was meant to be lived, and for the first time in my life, I am happy,” says Lawrence, a former inmate who spent nearly 20 years in prison before coming to a GEO Reentry facility. Another individual with more than 15 arrests and seven felony convictions, known in his town as a drug dealer, successfully completed his tailored program and now works for GEO as a Unit Counselor. He stated, “I’m grateful for the second chance God has given me to make up for my past.”
We hear thousands of stories from past program participants, each one unique and different. These are the stories that keep us excited and moving forward. And while we still enjoy a great movie, nothing compares to the real stories of life changed for the better.
