BACKGROUND

Opened in April 1996, the Phoenix West Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility is a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) facility for adult male inmates. Staff was recruited from the local community and local vendors were used as much as possible. As a result, the facility contributes significantly to the local economy through salaries and purchase of goods and services.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Substance abuse treatment and education is mandated for all at Phoenix West Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility. The facility is licensed as an outpatient facility and its curriculum, the Journeys West Program, was developed specifically for the facility. The program consists of ten individual five-week modules; all based in a cognitive behavioral approach, with its prime focus on DUI education and treatment classes. In addition, The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO) provides employability skills, parenting, substance abuse education and counseling, education, case management, life skills/self help, facility work programs (both on and off site), and stress management. GEO assumed operations of Phoenix West Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility during the acquisition of Correctional Services Corporation (CSC) in November 2005.

ACCREDITATION:

The facility achieved reaccreditation through the American Correctional Association with a score of 99%. The facility is licensed by the Arizona State Board of Behavioral Health as an outpatient clinic for Substance Abuse Education and Treatment.
